SVYC Programming

Fun in the Sun

shapeimage_10_232This is the summer programming for the youth ages 5-13 yrs old.  We take the youth on daily adventures focused on life skills, education, good sportsmanship, positive leadership, and respect for those around them.  We run programming from 8-6 from the day school gets out to the day school goes back in. One week during the summer we offer programming for the whole neighborhood in an effort to provide resources to the greater Sun Valley Community.  The rest of the summer is filled with adventures and life experiences to help the youth enrolled experience new things in their lives.

Little G's

shapeimage_7_342Little G's is our program for youth ages 5 through 13.  Named for 'Little People Loving God', this is the licensed day care aspect of Sun Valley Youth Center.  We currently are receiving funding from the state through parents' eligibility.  The exciting part of being licensed is that due to our licensure we are able to provide some tax credits to those who apply (see your tax advisor for how this may benefit you as a donor!)

The Little G's are with us from 3:45-7:00pm Monday through Friday.  We pick the elementary youth up from school at 3:45pm.  They begin by having a snack provided by the Food Bank of the Rockies, then head into tutoring and reading time.  Staff and volunteers then coordinate games and recreation.  Each day the center provides different activities for the youth such as sports and Boy Scouting.

Because this portion of our program is partially funded by the state of Colorado, we have to ensure that our program is not requiring kids to participate in Church activities.  You may ask how we work with this stipulation?  We close the day care at 7:00pm and for the last hour of the day we partner with Tha Myx International Church for Bible studies, prayer, devotions and Hip Hop church.

Urban Impact

shapeimage_6_193Program for youth ages 14-21 life skills, mentoring, homework help, and all around support and resource for the young people in the program.  Due to lack of funding the program has been scaled back to service youth on an as-needed basis.  Many of our 18-year-old youth are parents and we do mostly resourcing for them with items that they need, such as diapers, formula, car seats, etc.  All of these resources are on a donation basis, when we get them donated, we hand them out.
